According to a Bloomberg survey from 2013, Latvia's broadband lines offer the fastest internet in Europe, with an average peak speed of 37.5 megabits per second.[1] The location also offers excellent connection speeds not only into Eastern Europe but also Scandinavia.
As reported by the OpenNet Initiative, there is no evidence of internet filtering in Latvia; the constitution and law provide for freedom of speech and of the press. However, there have been incidents of alleged censorship in the past: In 2010 the governments Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) removed the satirical film "The Last Bear Slayer" from the partially state-owned cable provider Lettelecom. Reporters Without Borders charged that the prohibition constituted improper censorship.[2]
Since some media companies in Latvia restrict their content to users with a domestic IP address, Perfect Privacy offers servers in Riga so that you can access such content while enjoying good connection times into Europe and Scandinavia.
